Leoma Lovegrove's art is easily recognizable by its vibrancy & "Leomatized" impressionist brush stokes. Below is just a sampling of some of Leoma's work available for sale and can produced is a variety of custom sizes.

Lovegrove's fine art reproductions are produced on archival canvas in her Matlacha Island studio. Each piece is gallery wrapped on a 1 1/2" deep stretcher bar with sides hand-painted to compliment the painting making framing not needed. Leoma's art arrives wired and ready to hang and enjoy for many years to come.

Artist Leoma Lovegrove

Leoma Lovegrove was born in Chicago in 19, well, a lady never tells. A graduate of The Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, Lovegrove and her author husband Mike Silberg, opened their Matlacha gallery in 1996.

Sub-tropical influences contribute to Leoma’s Florida inspired art. Because of her passion for the Sunshine State, Leoma’s been instrumental in encouraging tourism, working in conjunction with The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel, to create awareness of and further promote the area.  Together they have enticed guests from around the globe with Leoma’s colorful depictions of local wildlife and scenery. 

Her works are on display in galleries throughout the world as well as commissioned for Sir Richard Branson and even in two Presidential libraries. She was also honored at an artist’s reception at The White House given by First Lady, Laura Bush.

Lovegrove recharges her artistic batteries each spring by traveling over-seas where she often paints in Monet's Garden in Giverny, France. Her home and global headquarters are also on Matlacha Island where she lives with her author husband, Michael J. Silberg, Solomon the demanding cranky parrot and two feral cats, Pebbles and Fred.

Lovegrove Gallery & Gardens is also home to Lovegrove Island Cottage. The waterfront cottage is located in Historic Matlacha. Set amongst a lush mangrove setting with awe-inspiring sunrises, the Cottage is available for 3-night stays. Matlacha's most colorful landmark is Leoma Lovegrove Art Gallery with its flamingo pink roof, polka dotted walls and landmark white mannequins posed with clever signage atop its roof.  Lovegrove has crammed an incredible amount of her art throughout her historic building, which she divided into a series of themed rooms. Each embraces a deeply personal motif beginning with the Beatles room which segues into the Florida room. The back viewing area is called "Leoma Loves America" while the room leading to the Gardens is the room of whimsies. Leoma Lovegrove's art is instantly recognizable with exuberant paint strokes sometimes created with her fingers in addition to brushes in a variety of shapes and sizes used to apply her incredible palette (often a huge garbage can lid) of vivid tropical acrylic mixed paints.  Appealing to many art lovers all over the world with her quasi-impressionist/expressionist painting style of colorful birds, fish, palms, mermaids....   

Leoma's art is in the private collection of the former First Lady Laura Bush and in the Presidential libraries of George W. Bush in Dallas and Jimmy Carter in Atlanta. Internationally, Virgina Airlines commissioned Lovegrove to paint Sir Richard Branson's portrait for their London headquarters. Her work is currently on exhibit at SW Florida International Airport (Shine On), Edison & Ford Winter Estates (Into the Wild) and Hotel Indigo downtown Ft. Myers (Off the Ceiling).

Gardens


Lovegrove’s inspired Beatle art exert their presence in the Garden through a large painting of the Fab Four from their Yellow Submarine album (although a more apt simile might be Abbey Road‘s Octopus’ Garden). This painting serves as backdrop on a stage (which she’s named Leopiville) where Lovegrove can be found giving a “Painting Out Loud” performance for special charities. Sunday from 2-5pm during season visitors can enjoy live entertainment while having Love Boat homemade ice cream served in a souvenir coconut shell.
 
The Garden truly is an aggregation of natural botanicals that represent flora indigenous to Matlacha Island and Florida with purple-painted bridges and mosaic walkways, wrought-iron tables and chairs under coconut palms with painted trunks and multitudes of midnight blue bottle trees.  Just as Ringo Star’s octopuses skimmed the ocean floor looking for shells and shiny objects for their gardens, Lovegrove collects empty Saratoga Water bottles left behind from her visitors drinking the sparkling spring water sold exclusively at Lovegrove Gallery & Garden.   Leoma than recycles them into beautiful pieces of garden art. At night, the fluorescent-trimmed white bottle bottoms glow in the dark adding to the garden’s ambiance for nighttime events. Garden available for special occasions, contact us today.
 
While enjoying the Garden you can also pick up a Coconut Post Card to send to a loved one ...little artistic hands are welcome to paint a Florida souvenir right under the Garden's Boat House or on the dock in small tables and chairs especially for children. Boat dockage is available for those traveling by water.

Island Cottage Accommodations

The island of Matlacha (pronounced MAT-la-shay) is reminiscent of Old Florida. Chain restaurants and coffee bars are replaced with salty fisherman wearing white crabbing boots (referred to as “Matlacha Reeboks”), a plethora of fresh seafood, The Great Calusa Blueway kayaking trail, the world’s fishingest bridge (yes there really is such a thing) and an abundance of colorful wildlife. Here you'll discover beauty like no other. The sun drenched warm winter weather and white sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico make this area one of the most amazing to visit in the U.S.
